scratch cradle (2014) for string quartet
duration: ca 11'

commissioned by the Argus Quartet

first performance: December 12, 2015 - Argus Quartet - MONK Space in Los Angeles, CA

program note:
The title scratch cradle is derived from the original name of the two person string figure game Cat's Cradle. Like Cat's Cradle, the music of this string quartet interacts and moves throughout the ensemble in a game like fashion – motives quickly bounce around and are juxtaposed against one another rhythmically. Timbre wise, scratch cradle also is a fitting title as the the piece is built around the strings' “scratch tone.”
