The program features compositions written by Thomas as a doctoral candidate at the University of Southern California including the world premiere of Thomas's newest percussion quartet not only that one but that one & that too. NY PHIL BIENNIAL presents The Aspen Contemporary Ensemble performing "bang Z"

From May 23 to June 11, 2016, the New York Philharmonic and Music Director Alan Gilbert will present the second NY PHIL BIENNIAL, a wide-ranging exploration of today’s music by an array of contemporary and modern composers. A flagship project of the New York Philharmonic, the NY PHIL BIENNIAL brings together an international roster of composers, performers, and curatorial voices for concerts presented both on the Lincoln Center campus and in venues throughout the city.

ASPEN MUSIC FESTIVAL AND SCHOOL’S ASPEN CONTEMPORARY ENSEMBLE To Perform New York Premieres by Aspen Alumni Thomas KOTCHEFF, Nina C. YOUNG, and Christopher STARK Aspen Faculty Members Steven STUCKY and Stephen HARTKE And Esa-Pekka SALONEN Conducted by STEVEN STUCKY June 8, 2016, at WHITNEY MUSEUM OF AMERICAN ART.

Current members and alumni of Aspen Music Festival and School’s Aspen Contemporary Ensemble (ACE), led by Aspen composition faculty member Steven Stucky, will perform New York Premieres by composers tied to Aspen’s new-music programs. Taking place at the Whitney Museum of American Art, the program features works by young Aspen alumni Thomas Kotcheff (United States, b. 1988), Nina C. Young (United States, b. 1984), and Christopher Stark (United States, b. 1980); Aspen faculty members Steven Stucky (United States, b. 1949) and Stephen Hartke (United States, b. 1952); and a work by Esa-Pekka Salonen (Finland, b. 1958) that ACE performed to acclaim in its final concert in summer 2015.

Forecast Music, the Piedmont Triad’s premier contemporary music group, proudly presents works by a variety of local and national contemporary composers, as well as a recently unearthed John Cage classic.  The program will feature works by Marc Satterwhite (KY), Amelia Kaplan (IN), Mark Engebretson (NC), Eric Schwartz (NC), 2015 Forecast Music International Call for Scores winner Thomas Kotcheff (CA), who will be in attendance to introduce his work, as well as "Dance Music for Elfrid Ide", a long lost John Cage score only rediscovered in 2005. Performers, drawn from the faculties of UNCSA, Wake Forest University, and UNCG, include Carla Copeland-Burns-flute, Michael Burns-bassoon, Jacqui Carrasco-violin, Evan Richey-cello, John Beck-percussion, James Douglass-piano, and new Forecast Music saxophonist Susan Fancher. The Cage work, written for the dance faculty at Mills College, where he worked in the early 40s, will serve as a segue into a free after-event: a performance of choreographer Trisha Brown's Sololos.

performing with USC Kaufman School of Dance and choreographer Bill T. Jones

Legendary choreographer, director, dancer, activist, and MacArthur “Genius” Bill T. Jones will grace Bovard Auditorium for a one-of-a-kind evening of dance and discussion. In 2011, Jones was named executive artistic director of New York Live Arts, an organization that supports dance and other movement-based artists through new approaches to producing, presenting, and educating. In a unique two-part presentation, Jones will talk with Kenneth Foster, director of the USC Arts Leadership Program, about the challenges and rewards of being an artist-leader. In the second half of the evening, Jones will collaborate with students from the USC Thornton School of Music and USC Kaufman School of Dance on an adaptation of his fascinating multidisciplinary work Story/Time, which fuses the age-old art of storytelling with a vibrant landscape of contemporary movement and music.

The celebrated Los Angeles–based new-music ensemble wild Up will join forces with Thornton Edge in a concert dedicated to the premise that great ideas amplified by the megaphone of art and music are capable of creating great change. The directors of these ensembles, Christopher Rountree and Donald Crockett, joined by USC Thornton School of Music faculty composer Ted Hearne, will narrate from the stage and conduct the combined ensembles in music engaged with social change: John Lennon’s “John Sinclair,” arranged by Christopher Rountree and Isaac Schankler; Frederic Rzewski’s “Attica”; Julius Eastman’s “Stay on It”; Ted Hearne’s “Brownie You’re a Heck of a Guy” from Katrina Ballads; Nina Simone’s “Strange Fruit,” arranged by Andrew McIntosh; and Louis Andriessen’s “Workers Union.” The concert will be followed by a discussion with the audience, moderated by Christopher Rountree and including Donald Crockett, Ted Hearne, and members of the two ensembles.

The Contemporary Performance Collective (CPC) performs "gone into night are all the eyes"

The Contemporary Performance Collective (CPC) gave its debut concert last April, featuring world premieres by eight Los Angeles composers. The CPC now announces its second concert. Mark your calendars for CPC II: Friday, January 15, 2016 @ 8 p.m.  The concert will be held at the St. Francis of Assisi Church in Silverlake and like all CPC concerts, this event will be free of charge.

CPC II will present the works of seven Los Angeles composers: Adam Schoenberg, Jeff Kryka, Shie Rozow, Nicholas Jacobson-Larson, Thomas Kotcheff, Dan Martinez and Wolfgang Gernot.  The concert features four world premieres, a west coast premiere and ensembles ranging from string quartet to 12-piece chamber orchestra.  The Lyris Quartet joins the CPC again as featured ensemble.

Riot Ensemble performs the EU premiere of "that in shadow or moonlight rises"

Presented in memory of the late Lee Hyla, this concert revolves around his spacious, Wyoming-inspired piece, My Life on the Plains.  The concert also sees the UK premiere of music by Nina C Young (Void), Thomas Kotcheff’s that in shadow or moonlight rises, Riot Ensemble's second 2015 performance of Marco Momi (Due Nudi) and Velado, by Riot Ensemble's 2015 composer-in-residence Jose Manuel Serrano.
