death, hocket, and roll (2014) for two toy pianos
duration: ca 3.5'

commissioned by HOCKET

first performance: November 30, 2014 - HOCKET - Brand Library & Art Center in Glendale, CA

program note:
I wrote death, hocket, and roll as a piece to showcase my piano duo HOCKET and our toy pianos. Like the name of our piano duo, the technique of hocketing is at the core of this work — a technique which uses alternating rhythms and pitches between two instruments to create a single line. The title of death, hocket, and roll” is derived partly from the rock and roll song shake, rattle, and roll and partly from the name of a sub-genre of death metal called “death ’n’ roll”
